Overview
Chikungunya is a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes — the same mosquitoes that spread dengue and Zika. It causes sudden onset of fever and severe joint pain that can be debilitating and may persist for weeks, months, or even years in some cases. The Ixchiq vaccine (VLA1553) is the first chikungunya vaccine to be approved for human use. It is a single-dose live attenuated vaccine approved for adults aged 18 and over. At Holborn Clinic, we can assess your eligibility and administer the vaccine as part of your pre-travel preparation.
