Overview
Measles, mumps, and rubella are three viral infections that can all be prevented with the MMR vaccine. Measles in particular remains a significant global health threat — it is extremely contagious and can cause serious complications including pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling), and death. Many UK adults are not fully protected. The NHS childhood programme gives MMR at 12 months and 3 years 4 months, but uptake dropped significantly in the late 1990s and early 2000s. If you are unsure of your status and cannot find records showing 2 doses, vaccination is recommended. At Holborn Clinic, we provide MMR privately with no waiting list. This is especially important before travel to areas with active outbreaks.
